LONDON THEATRE

The beautiful British film star, Marguerite Allan, is to be seen and heard at the London Theatre in the alldialogue screen version of Thomas Hardy’s famous novel, “Under the Greenwood Tree,” which is being released by Cinema Art Films. She is seen as a sweet village schoolmistress, who causes trouble with the local instrumental choir, by consenting to play an organ at the church, thereby displacing their band from existence. Playing opposite her is John Batten, the Auckland boy actor. Nigel Barrie, and a full cast of British players, who speak the language as it should he spoken. Among the many old-world types in “Under the Greenwood Tree,” is the ancient bootmaker. In this film we see Robert Abel as “Penny.” the village bootmaker, and player of the “serpent” bassoon, a wind instrument long since extinct. This is responsible for many weird and strange notes, and is a refreshing no\*elty to modern instruments. A full supporting programme is also being presented.
