Gave Aussies The Good Oil

SPORT IN FRANCE BULLOCK’S TEAM OF 50 Mr. Furza Brady, well-known West Australian sportsman, who arrived in Sydney recently, on his way home to Perth after a holiday in England, America and the Continent, not only picked winners for the Australian cricketers in France, but backed winners ridden by the Australians Sibbritt and Scanian in Paris, and Munro in Germany. Mr. Brady happened to be in Paris at the same time as the Australian cricketers, and ho suggested that they should go to the races at St. Cloud, where Frank Bullock had several horses engaged. Bullock gave his fellow Australians “the good oil,” and when one of his horses won the Australians cheered the winner home with such enthusiasm that French racegoers were startled almost out of their seats. One of the Best Horses Frank Bullock has a huge team of horses for his patron, M. Jacques Wittouck, at Chantilly, about 40 miles from Paris. His string numbers about 50. He is doing really well, and has won several important handicaps, one of his team, Palais Royal, being one of the best horses in France. However, M. Wittouck is not at all pleased with recent decisions given by the stewards of some of the French racing clubs, and he intends transferring his racing string to England, where Bullock will continue to train for him, and Scanlon will be his rider. Mr. Brady said he considered that Sibbritt was one of the best riders in France, and in this opinion he was backed by Bullock. The latter stated that he was more than pleased with Scanlon’s success for his first season, and said that with experience of Continental and English conditions, he would develop into a really great horseman. Different Styles Scanlon rode Palais Royal when he ran second in the Coronation Cup at Epsom (England), and Mr. Brady said that it was most marked to see the difference in styles between Scanlon, who is a noted “Tod Sloan” artist, and some of the leading English riders, who sit straight up. Incidentally, he did not consider some of the crack English riders were up to the best Australian standard.
