EXECUTIVE FORM LOCAL BRANCH OF GUILD LARGE MAJORITY SUPPORT By*7B votes to 13. executive officers of the Post and Telegrah Department in Auckland have decided to form a 1 local branch of the newly-constituted , Post and Telegraph Officers* Guild. A meeting held in the Unity Hall; last evening was attended by cers of the department, four of whom : refrained from voting. Long discus-! sion revolved round the motion pro- 1 posing the formation of the Auckland branch. Mr. J. Madden presided for the pre- | liminary business and outlined the • object of the meeting. He then vacated the chair in favour of Mr. S. C. Mahon. Mr. H. W. Parnell, a Dominion vice- • president of the Post and Telegraph , Employees’ Association, voiced strong ; opposition to the proposal and urged officers to oppose the movement. Other j speakers followed and the motion was eventually carried easily. The first officers of the branch were elected as follow: —Chairman, Mr. S.; C. Mahon; vice-chairman, Mr. A. M. Robertson: secretary and treasurer. Mr. C. J. Ait ken; committee. Messrs. Brough, Curtis, Fry, Irvine, Jones. Lambie, Loftus, O’Leary, Pascoe. Pellett and Troup. The committee was made representative of all sections of the service. The draft constitution will be received from Wellington shortly and the committee will review the draft. A general meeting of members will then be called for consideration of it and to appoint a delegate for the forthcoming Dominion conference in Wellington. NEW GUILD OPPOSED P. AND T. EMPLOYEES MEET Staffs from offices as far distant a« '■ Pukekoho were represented at tiio meeting convened by the Post axid Telegraph Employees' Association last evening, when a resolution was' passed unanimously disapproving of the guild movement and affirming continued loyalty to the present organisation. Mr. C. G. Fellows, vice-pi'esident ot the Auckland section, presided over the largo atendance, which included many controlling officers. After hearing address by Mr. H. 11. Brown, Dominion organiser, ami others, the meeting unanimously carried the following resolution:—“That this meeting of controlling and rank-and-file officers of the Auckland section of the Post and Telegraph Employees* Association views with regret ; the proposal to form a new guild. an<; is of the opinion that the Post and Telegraph Employees’ Association is quite capable, and has functioned in the past, in the best interests of all j members of the post and telegraph service. The meeting also reaffirms Its • continued loyalty to the present organisation.”
