MANAWATU FIXTURE GALLOPS AND SCHOOLING SOME DOUBTFUL STARTERS Press Association PALMERSTON N., Today. Although further rain fell yesterday and during tho night, the tracks at Awapuni were nevertheless in good order this morning. It was an off morning. New arrivals to hand for the meeting on Thursday and Saturday are Omeo, ITuirangi Girl, Young Thurnham, Courageous, Shortly, Kalakaua, Teri, Portray and I-linatore. Courageous and Shortly, with lightweights up, ran seven furlongs on the trial grass in 1.32. Teri and Portray ran home from the five furlongs post on the same track in 1.6 4-5. Hopwood and Te Atiawa were partners in a half-mile flutter. Hopwood had the advantage at the post, the distance being left behind in 52. Skyrider was sent a round over the steeplechase fences on the course proper, giving a promising display. Master Lu and Young Thurnham were partners in a round of the big country. Young Thurnham fenced the faster, but ran across his companion at the first brush double. Both negotiated the second brush safely. Master Lu then went on alone to jump the single brush. Akbar has been scratched for all engagements at tho fixture. While this is the only official defection, Malahat and Blacksmith will be missing on the day. Corneroff is also doubtful. Hymestrarson, on the other hand, has thrown off all signs of lameness and is quite himself.
