DUPED OF £9,000

CON-MEN PUT OVER SCHEME ON SOUTH AFRICAN BETTING SYSTEM MISSED LONDON, Saturday. Mr. Jacobus de Wet, a wealthy South African visitor to London, was robbed of £9,000 by confidence tricksters, one of whom is said to be from New Zealand. They met casually in the lounge of an hotel, where they described to Mr. de Wet an infallible betting system. Mr. de Wet handed over the money, but later recognised the photographs of his acquaintances at Scotland Yard in the "rogues’ gallery."

NATIONAL GALLERY—The Prince of Wales has accepted the invitation of the Lords of the Treasury to become one of the trustees of the National Gallery. England, in succession to Sir Herbert Cook, whose term has expired.
