An application for a land agent's licence by Mr. T. E. Martin, of Morrinsville, was granted by Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Morrinsville Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Speaking of the way farmers’ costs had risen while prices for primary produce had fallen during recent years, a Matamata sheepfarrner recalled that when in the South Island before the war he sold wool at 9Jd a lb, and this year he received only lOd a lb. Last year he got Is 6d a lb. * * * The increase in the petrol-tax is not being favourably regarded by those holding contracts for the conveyance of children to and from schools'. They contend that they liavo taken the contract at a low price, and since they are not allowed to carry other passengers, there is no chance of “passing on” the impost. ... The tobacconist’s shop of Mr. L. W. Ellis, Thames Street, was broken into on Thursday night and about £G in silver was stolen from the cash ,register. Entry was gained by breaking the lock of the front door. The shop was broken into about a year ago, when a sum in silver was stolen. Last week-end the residence of Mr. O. J. Soanes, Moorliouse Street, was entered while the occupants were away, and a of money stolen. A fine of £2 and costs 10s was imposed on Gordon Watson, of Te Arolia, who was charged at the Morrinsville Poilco Court on Thursday, before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., with driving a car in Thames Street at a speed dangerous to the public. The police stated that on Saturday, June 28, Watson drove along the street past several intersections at a speed estimated at between 35 and 40 miles an hour. Ho had admitted the offence in a statement to the police.
