WINTER CUP
STAGHUNTER’S CHANCE BEST FRIEND KEPT GOING The Trentham Winter Cup candidate, Staghunter, continues to please in his work. He has done everything right since J. McLaughlin put him into work a while back, and after his forward running at Trentham, it is little wonder that he has a host of admirers for the Winter Cup. Some are not quite sure that he will be quite ready by August, but he will run a good race if he starts, and whether he wins or loses the Winter Cup he will be a much better horse later in the new season (comments The Sun’s Wellington correspondent). Best Friend seemed to have had enough of racing for a while when he failed completely in the Parliamentary Handicap on the middle day of the Wellington meeting, but as he has been entex'sd for other races since then any intention his trainer had of spelling him appears to have been abandoned. A mile seems to be his best distance, and if freshened up he would run a good race in the Winter Cup.
