In the Market Place

EGGS CHEAPER STILL FURTHER PRICE REDUCTION A further price reduction of 2d a dozen was recorded in the higher grades of eggs offered at the City Market auctions this morning. First quality special, A, and B grades in both hen and duck eggs are now selling at equal prices, ranging from 1s 11d to 1s 7 d a dozen. This is the lowest quotation for some months but is still twopence a dozen higher than the values ruling at this time last year. Prices will continue to fall, as supplies are increasing. There is a good demand. There will be no direct steamer from Sydney next week, but the mail boat has a quantity of fruit on board which will be sufficient to keep the market supplied. Island oranges are in good demand, being of an excellent quality. There is no imrpovement this morning in demand for dessert apples and pears, both lines being dull. Tree tomatoes,. too, were . difficult to quit, and the demand for hothouse tomatoes was not so keen. There was a fair market for lemons. Very much larger quantity of Poorman’s oranges were distributed in the bigger sizes, but there was no demand for the smaller fruit. Small supplies of new potatoes are coming in steadily from the Auckland suburbs and in a few weeks the Northern fields will begin to send in their quota. The market is heavily supplied with celery, cauliflower and cabbage. also other vegetables in season. The demand is fair. Radishes have proved unsaleable for some days.
