“A CLEVER THIEF”
RECEIVED STOLEN VALUABLES TO COME UP FOR SENTENCE “He i 3 a good worker when sober but a clever thief when in drink,” said Chief-Detective Hammond at the Police Court today, when describing Summers Heruika Edwards. Edwards, a labourer, aged 38, was charged with receiving a vratch and chain valued at £ls, knowing the same to have been dishonestly obtained. .. ... Chief-Detective Hammond said that Edwards had been arrested for a series of burglaries round Parnell some time ago. A watch and chain which was known to be missing, but could not be found at the time, had now been traced to Edwards. “Edwards is now on licence and seems to be going straight,” said the chief-detective. Mr. Aekins. for Edwards, said his client was now leading an honest life. If he were sent to prison he would probably lose the job he had. Questioned as to whether he would take out a prohibition order, Edwards said ho did not think it was necessary. He would sooner be put on his honour not to drink. Mr. F. K, Hunt. S.M., convicted accused and ordered - to come up for sentence when called upon.
