EDUCATION REPORT
SCARCITY OF COPIES FOR CONTROLLING BODIES DEPRECATED BY BOARD Owing to the scarcity of available copies of tlie report of the Education Committee to Parliament educational bodies in Auckland are finding difficulty in considering the significance and probable effects if the report were included in the statutes. At a meeting of the Auckland Grammar School Board yesterday it was suggested that the committee which drew up the report had shown great discourtesy. There were several instances in the Auckland district where educational bodies had not received a copy, and the Grammar School Board was one of these. The Seddon Memorial Technical College had obtained one only through the courtesy of the Hon. J. B. Donald, who represents the district in which the college stands. The Auckland branch of the Educational Institute and Thames High School Board had received no copies, and the former went to some trouble to obtain one in order that a sub-committee could give its consideration to the report. Mr. A. Burns told the meeting that the Auckland Education Board had received only one copy, and that was really intended as a personal favour to himself as chairman. When additional copies were asked for, the board was informed that no further copies were available. Mr. Burns claimed that in common justice, copies should have been sent to educational bodies. The Grammar School Board, he said, had been functioning admirably for 65 years, and it had received no copy of the report which proposed the abolition of the body. This was at least a great discourtesy to the controlling bodies.
