At her residence, Raurimu, Mrs. H. B. Hill was the hostess at a meeting of the local sub-branch of the Plunket Society. It was resolved to hold the annual ball about the middle of September. • • » Organised by Miss J. V. Ward, secretary of the Taumarunui Boys’ Band Carnival Committee, a delightful children's party was held in the Foresters’ Hall. Assistance was given by Mrs. G. E. Manson and Messrs. W. Melrose and G. S. Manson. * * * SCHOOL CONCERT One of the best entertainments of its kind ever given in the district attracted a large number of people for the Ohura district high school annual concert. The various items were very creditably given. Mrs. D. McKay and Miss Jurd played the incidental music. *> * * Advice has been received by cablegram in Taumarunui that Miss Jean Montgomerie, a popular resident of Piriaka, and an enthusiastic member of the Taumarunui Ladies’ Golf Club, has arrived at Durban, South Africa. She will make a tour there before proceeding to South America. * * # A jolly “hard-up” social and dance in aid of the hall funds was well attended at Raurimu. Costume prizes were won by Miss Karam and Mr. Watson. * • * A PRESENTATION A gathering of Public Works Department employees and friends at Ohura gave Mr. C. Jones, who la leaving for England, a farewell evening. Mrs. H. Thompson supplied the dance music, and Mr. P. Sexton, on behalf of the contributors, presented Mr. Jones with a handsome embossed travelling bag.
