THE REV. ROBERT WELSH The death has occurred in Wanganui of the Rev. Robert Welsh, aged 69, a Presbyterian minister. Mr. Welsh was born in Belfast, and held charges at Fordell, Deniliquin. New South Wales. Arrowtown, Opunake, and Pahiatua. He leaves a widow, four sons, and three daughters.—P.A. MISS. E. BREWSTER The death occurred at a private hospital, Auckland, on Friday, of Miss Ellen Brewster, at the age of 51 years. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brewster, and eamc to New Zealand in the ship British Empire over half a century ago. She resided with her parents at Pokeno. and later at Whangarata. MRS. C. R. PROHL Mrs. Mary Ann Prohl, who has died at her home at Ponsonby at the age of 81, was the widow of the late Mr. Carl Rudolph Prohl, master mariner. Mrs. Prohl was born in Aberdeen and cam© to Auckland v in 1875. and had lived here ever since. She had spent the past o 0 years in the Ponsonby district. She is survived by three sons and one daughter. There are 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. MR. J. FORD The death has occurred of Mr. Joseph Ford, of the firm of Ford, Richardson and Company, Ltd., at the age of 78. Born in London. Mr. Ford went to South Africa .and then to Australia, where he floated a silver mine company at Broken Hill. Later ho settled in Melbourne and Sydney, but in 1901 he came to New Zealand, living in Wellington for three year* before coming to Auckland, where he lived until his death. Mr. Ford is survived by hip wife, one son, Mr. F. L. Ford, and two daughters, Mrs. E. A. Smart and Miss A. Ford, all of Auckland. MRS. ELLEN CASEY Mrs. Ellen Casey, of Auckland, died at Mount Maunganui, Tauranga, yesterday. Born in London in IS6I. she came to New Zealand with her family 34 years ago. and settled at Napier. For the last 20 years she had lived in Auckland. Recently she went to Mount Maunganui to visit one of her daughters. Mrs. J. E. Kelly. Mrs. Casey is survived by another daughter. Mrs. L. Chcriton, of Lake Te Anau. and by five sons, Messrs. Leo, Richard. Eugene. Andrew and Thomas Casey, all of whom live in Auckland. Mr. E. Casey is divisional superintendent of railways for the North Island. MRS. ISABELLA HILL Mrs. Isabella Hill, whose death has occured at Kamo, was born at Auckland in 1845, her parents having ar- ! rived here a short time before from 1 Nova Scotia on the ship Duchess of Argyle They lived first in the Bay ! of Islands and when trouble with the Maoris broke out they moved to Auckland. returning later to the North. Mrs. Hill lived at Taumarere after her marriage and then, for 39 years, at Hukerenui. When her husband died she went to live with a son at Kamo. She is survived by eight children. 50 ; grandchildren and 30 great-grand-j children. MRS. AGNES LAIRD The death of Mrs. Agnes Laird occurred at a private hospital at Wanga- ‘ nui on Saturday afternoon, at the age lof 91 years. Mrs. Laird, who was a I strong supporter of the Presbytefaan S Church, was born near Ayr, Scotland, in 1539. She was married in 1861 and came to New Zealand in 1566 in thee ship Sheburne. Till 1876 she was a resident of New Plymouth and from then on a resident of Wanganui. She suffered the hardships experienced by pioneers at the close of the Maori War and her delightful personality and sound practical citizenship made its influence felt by all who knew’ her. Several months ago Mrs. Laird fell and fractured a thigh and though the injury healed quite successfully the shock was too great for her advanced years and was directly the cause of her death. The following family of ten is left: Mr. A. S. Laird (Taumarunui), Miss Laird (Wanganui). Mr. G. L. Laird (Auckland), Mrs. Alexander (Waverley), Mrs. G. Robertson (Hamilton). Mr. D. P. Laird (Tauwhare), Mr. A. E. Laird (Wanganui). Mrs. M. Jacob (Wairarapa). Mrs. C. G. Bloore (Gisborne) and Mr. K. G. Laird (Glasgow. Scotland). There are also 28 grandchildren ami seven great-grandchild - ren. Mrs. Laird's husband prcdeccas 1 | her 2G years ago.
