“Charity Night"
ATHENIANS ORGANISE SUCCESSFUL EVENING FOR CITY MISSIONS MEMBERS MAKE SPLENDID RESPONSE Once in every season the Athenian Club makes a special effort on behalf of charity, and the response of the members of the club has always been most gratifying. This year it rose to the occasion splendidly and “Charity Night,” held on Saturday last, resulted in the sum of £B2 being raised in the hall. This sum is to be divided between the Rev. Jasper Calder’s City Alission and Sister Esther’s Presbyterian Alission. A varied musical and elocutionary programme was given by the following artists:—Miss Joan Laird, Alessrs. Len Barnes, Owen Pritchard, Cedric Zahara and Lynne; and the Snappy Three. The accompaniments were played by Misses Elva Carr and Follas. The host and hostess of the evening were Air. and Airs. V. Trask. Among those present were: Airs. "Wilfrid "Wright, if. a smart black sequined frock and oriental lame bridge coatee: Airs. V. Tl. Trask, rainbow lame; Miss Laura Walker, blue taffeta; Airs. F. O’Connor, gold lace frock; Airs. P. Dawson. flame taffeta; Airs. Munroe Emanuel, black satin and lace; Aliss Nora Kirkby, black lace over pink; Aliss Hazel Rainev, silver lame; Airs. Tysoe, silver lace; '.Mrs. Williams, black ring velvet; Mrs. H. S. Patterson, green georgette: Mrs. U. Alidxlleton, pale pink lace flounced frock: Miss Myrtle Mortensen. buttercup lace; Miss Somerville, cream satin beaute; Airs. Kiss in, blue georgette. The Rev. Jasper Calder and Airs. Calder and Sister Pat were present during the evening.
