ROYAL ACADEMY TESTS
INCREASE IN ENTRIES In the Auckland district, the entries in the practical examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music show an increase this year of nearly 100 candidates compared with last year. This year the number is 404. compared with 30S last year. The tests commenced yesterday morning in the Pitt Street Methodist Church. Ur. R. o. Beachcroft. M.A., is conducting the examinations. He has a wide experience as conductor, performer. lecturer and judge, and also in orchestral concert work and in mass singing. His work is now mainly that of examiner. Dr. .Beachcroft received his musical education as an exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music, and as an organ scholar at Worcester College, Oxford. There, he graduated as Doctor of Music. Tlie entries in the present Auckland examinations are made up as follow: Primary section, 99; elementary section, 84; higher and lower groups, 113; intermediate and advanced. 59; final section, 7; licentiate examination, 28: rudimentary examination. 14.
