MAORI CHILD KILLED
LORRY GOES OVER BANK DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY Press Association ROTORUA, Today. A fatal accident occurred on Saturday evening on the Rotorua-Taupo road when a lorry went over a steep bank seven miles out, and a child was killed. The circumstances were peculiar. The lorry stuck in loose ground two miles from the scene of the accident and was towed to safety by a car driven by Mr. Edgar Bellworthy. The light of the lorry failed and the driver followed Mr. Bellworthy’s car for two miles. Mr. Bellworthy, hearing a crash, stopped and found the lorry had disappeared over a 100 ft bank. The driver, Kora Wharekawa, was found uninjured, and a child, Maniapoto Tukoreka, a son of Rewi Maniapoto, of Whakarewarewa, was dead. The hody was brought to Rotorua, where an inquest will be held.
