BOXING AT GREYMOUTH
PALMER BEATS CLEVERLEY Press Association GREYMOUTH, Sunday. A professional boxing contest between “Tiger’* Palmer (Melbourne), 11.13, and Alf Cleverley (Wellington), 12.2£, took place last night at Greymouth. Palmer’s aggression brought him the victory in the tenth round, when Cleverley was twice down for counts of nine, from rights .o the jaw and body. When he went down the third time the -referee, Mr. Frank O’Neill, awarded Palmer the verdict. Cleverley started well, but after the second round Palmer took the initiative, repeatedly rushing his opponent to the ropes and using nice left rips effectively. He missed occasionally with right uppercuts.
