Trainer August Buys Rockbum SPRING FORM WAS GOOD MAY PROVE A BARGAIN The well-known pacer llockhurn has been purchased by S. M- August, the Mangere trainer, from Mr. D. Dridson. Rockburn is an Australian-bred gelding by Rock Huon. He has raced for several seasons in the Auckland Province with at times a good degree of success. The Rock Huon gelding won some races under J. S. Shaw’s care, including the Thames Cup, an event he captured at a later period for Jim O’Kane. This season, after having a spell, he was put in Sid August’s charge and the Mangere trainer got him into fine

form in the spring, scoring three firsts and a second in four consecutive starts. His comeback at that term caused a lot of surprise as it was generally anticipated the aged gelding was on the decline. He soon proved the unsoundness of that theory, and when wound up again in the new season Rockburn may win some useful prizes for owner August.

WARPLANE IN FORM PACER ENTERED FOR ADDINGTON % TRIP INDEFINITE The Epsom-trained Warplane is the only one of the Auckland provincial pacers claiming an engagement at the New Zealand Metropolitan August fixture. Warplane has not lost any of the condition that made him so attractive to punters at the Winter Meeting - , and ho is doing everything asked of him by J. S. Shaw in approved style. The son of Man o’ War—Air Raid has his luggage labelled “Addington,'* and he may take his departure for the South this week. Warplane has demonstrated in the past that he pro-

fers the “above ground” footing, and should he succeed in striking the dirt at its best during National Week, he will run some merrv races at Addington. In conversation with the writer today, Mrs. E. Sweetapple said it depended whether a companion could be found to make the trip with her pa.*er. It transpires that only “double” horse wagons can be procured, making transit decidedly costly, and unless another horse should be going South at the same time. Warplane may be left at home. Any owner who has a galloper for tho National Carnival will find it suitable and less expensive if arrangements are made to travel in company with the Epsom pacer.
