SINGING AT FOOTBALL

ARRANGED FOR MATCHES AT EDEN PARK Community singing has been organised for the patrons of the football games at Eden Park on the next two Saturdays, and special song sheets are being printed for distribution. This announcement was made yesterday at the community sing at the Town Hall. Next Saturday the British team is to play Auckland, and on the following Saturday the third test is to be played. Mr. Vernon Drew, Mr. Len Barnes and Uncle Tom will be the song leaders. The singing is to be started at about 10 o’clock each morning. The Ponsonby Boys’ Brass Band will assist About 1,800 people attended the sing at the Town Hall yesterday. Mr. G. E. Grey Campbell presided, and the Rev. Jasper Calder was the song leader. Miss Irene Frost sang two solos, ‘Kathleen Mavoureen” and “Killarney,” which were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. Mrs. Barrington Snow was the accompanist. As usual, the hymn, “O God our Help in Ages Past,” was sung best of all. Of the other songs on the programme, those that went particularly well were “John Peel,” “Sweet Marie,” and “Wait Till the Clouds Roll By.” The company also treated themselves to “Peggy O’Neill,” “Minstrel Boy,” “Life on the Ocean Wave,” “Home, Sweet, Home,” and “Aloha Oe,” among other popular numbers.
