VICTORIA’S PRIZE NIGHT
CRUISING CLUB’S FUNCTION The annual prize night of the Victoria Cruising Club was held in the Unity Hall last evening. After the distribution of the trophies, the large attendance, which included representatives from other* yacht and launch clubs, spent the time in dancing. Mr. E. R. Davis, vice-patron, presented the prizes. He apologised for the absence in London of the patron, Mr. E. 11. Davis, who had held that position since the inception of the club 27 years ago. The display of trophie> was one of the best he had seen in the Dominion.
The club now has a membership of 400. and the season had been most successful. A total of 42 class racet liad been held on the six days devoted to racing. Mr. Davis commented on the activities of the club, eulogising the services of the commodore, Mr. E Griffiths, who had worked hard for the body. In addition to the trophies, £66 was distributed in cash prizes by the club.
The most important prizes were won by the following:—Casey Cup. Itakoa; Rae Cup. Swiftsure; Boonstra Cup. Shalimax; Anzac Cup, Why Not: Surfdale and Macky memorial shields. Spray; annual regatta keel yachts. Speedwell: II class. Wli. Not: L class, Rakoa; V class. Ranui; S class. Mistral: T class. Shalimar; Y class, Itahiri II.: aggregate points prize for boats 20ft and over. Why Not: boats ISft and under. Wild Wave; launches, Areta; highest number of points secured by boat throughout the season. Why Not.
