FATALITY IN BUSH

STRUCK BY TREE Special to THE SUN TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday. An inquest concerning the death of Kenneth McKenzie, aged 50, who was struck by a tree while bushfelling at Ongarue on Friday, was held before the coroner, Mr. A. S. Laird. Henry Shaw McDonald, bushman, who was working with McKenzie, said they were cutting a rimu tree, and in falling it struck another tree, which was unsound. The unsound tree broke, rebounded and struck McKenzie, crushing him against a birch stake close by. A piece of the stake entered his left side. Witness had given a warning and McKenzie turned, and both ran uphill. Witness thought McKenzie had a good chance of escaping, and did not see him fall. Immediately after the accident witness went to where McKenzie was lying dead. The coroner returned a verdict of accidental death.
