“MAN AMONG MEN”
TRIBUTE TO LATE SIR JOSEPH WARD SIR MAUI POMARE ALSO “He was a man among men, and as a statesman he left a mark in New Zealand that nothing tan efface,” said Mr. William Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, yesterday, in paying a tribute to the late Sir Joseph Ward. In prcrposing a motion of sympathy with the bereaved relatives, Air. Wallace eulogised the services of the former Prime Minister, particularly his fine spirit of Imperialism, The death of Sir Maui Pomare was also sympathetically referred to by Air. Wallace, who said that Sir Maui had been one of the. most popular holders of the portfolio, and a man in whom the hospital boards and the department reposed the greatest confidence. He believed that the loss of the portfolio, which had been taken from him without any reason, was one of the greatest disappointments of Sir Maui’s life. Deep regret was also expressed by Air. Wallace at the death of Hr. K. Clare, a former resident doctor at the hospital. Motions of sympathy were carried in silence.
