DAIRYING PROGRESS
IMPROVEMENT SHOWN AT HOKIANGA HOME MARKET CONDITIONS Special to THE SUN HOKIANGA, Tuesday. A favourable year for production is reported by the chairman of directors of the Hokianga Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, Mr. \Y. Grounds, in his annual statement for the year ended May 31. By manufacturing 914 tons of butter, the company had increased the output by 87 tons, in comparison with the quantity in the .preceding season, but, against this, market conditions had been disappointing and difficult. World-wide financial fluctuations had assisted in the deflation of values and the prices had been on a lower range than had been experienced for many -years. In the opinion of the directors, the absence ol’ business-like control of marketing in London had augmented the decline to a considerable extent. Ninety-one per cent, of the company’s butter had been graded as finest —evidence of the steady improvement in quality. A substantial quantity of butter was sold to Canada on f.o.b. terms early in the season at prices extremely favourable to suppliers. As advances against butterfat, £ 96,145 had been paid to suppliers, compared with £103,143 for the corresponding period in the previous season. A further sum of £8,252 was expected to be available for distribution, compared with £9,229 the previous season. PROFIT AT MATAKANA Special to THE SUN TAURANGA, Today. For the year ended May 31, the Matakana Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, experienced a record period of production, and, out of the profit of £1,618 for the season, the directors recommend a further payment on butterfat supplied from March to May of 3d in the pound. This will make an average payment of 15.29 d over all grades. The output was 304 tons, an increase of 21. Finest bLitter made was 48.2 per cent., compared with 65.4 per cent, last season. Cheese graded finest was 46.5 per cent., against the figure of 15.7 per cent, last year. TO MANAGE AT TAUPIRI Special to THE SUN NGARUAWAHIA, Tuesday. A farewell concert to Mr. A. J. Garry, who leaves Ngaruawahia shortly to take the position of manager of the new dairy factory at Taupiri, was largely attended. Mr. Garry is a member of the executive committee of the Auckland provincial branch of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association. His work in the interests of dairying in the district has been notable. MAUNGATUROTO OUTPUT Special to TITE SUN MAUNGATUROTO, Tuesday. An increase of 121 ,tons is shown in the output of 573 tons from the Maungaturoto Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited. The proportion of butter graded finest was 80.95 per cent. The total payment to suppliers has been £65,312, compared with £57,931 in the previous season. The average price paid over all grades was 15d.
