INTOXICATED MOTORIST FINE OF £25 INFLICTED Admitting a charge of intoxication Vhile driving a motor-car down Karangahape Road, William Robert Curson was fined £25 today and will be unable to get a motor licence for two years., Curson, a carpenter, aged 28, was charged at the Police Court today with driving a motor-car on July 14 while in a state of intoxication: with breaking his prohibition order and with driving a motor-car without a licence. He admitted the charges. Sub-Inspector Shanahan said that Constable Gawlor saw a car being driven erratically down Karangahape Road on Saturday evening at 6.10 p.m. The vehicle had no lights and was running from one side to the pther of the road. . The driver refused to stop when challenged by the constable, who had to jump on the running-board before the motor-car was brought to a stop. The car had been hired. Mr. Hunt: I wonder how he got a Jnotor-car if he had no liqpnce? Mr. Aekins, who appeared for Curson, said his client had had a few gins that day to do good to his injured back. Curson was in regular work, though it was admitted that he had a formidable list of convictions. Curson was fined £25 or two months, and Mr. Hunt decided that he would not be able to get a motorlicence for two years. He was given Jio time in which to pay the fine.
