TE AWAMUTU NEWS

On behalf of the Te Awamutu Croquet Club, a successful social evening was arranged by Alesdames J. T. Young, L. Nicholson and AI. H. Sims, of Frontier Road. Alusic was supplied by Air. L. Nicholson and Aliss J. Alanson. SOCIAL AND DANCE A social and dance, promoted in aid of the Anglican Church funds, took place at Te Rore on Friday evening by members of St. John’s Girls’ Club. A well varied concert programme was given, including an exhibition of gymnastic exercises by a squad of six girls, under the tuition of Mr. 11. Holt. The accompaniments were ably played by Aliss P. North and Aliss B. Bowden. COAIBINED FAREWELL AND KITCHEN EVENING An interesting function took place in the Kakapuku Hall on Friday evening. Friends from Pokuru assembled to bid farewell to Air. and Airs. L. Perry, of Pokuru, who are leaving for England. The occasion was also taken to entertain Aliss R. Dew and Air. W. ATcDonald to a “kitchen evening” in view of their approaching marriage. Excellent dance music was provided by Mrs. Harker. ser.r. (Te Kawa), Airs, if. Fear and Miss W. Fear, Messrs. L. Perry and Ford, while several enjoyable songs were given by several Alaori youths. On behalf of the residents, Air. S. Alexander presented the departing guests' with a travelling rug. , Air. S. If. West then presented Aliss D?\v and Air. ATcDonald with a large number of parcels on behalf of those present. ENGAGEMENTS The engagement is announced of Alavis, only daughter of Air. A. A- Pellett, of Remuera Road, to Henry Trace, youngest son of Air. and Airs. .James Day. of Awaroa Bay, Waiheke Island, Auckland. * * * An engagement is ;mnounced between Ivan Seaward, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Cantrell, of Montpellier Street, Dunedin, and Jean Werge, younger daughter of Air. and Airs. T. F. Upfiil, of Lichfield Road, Parnell, Auckland. Tho engagement is announced of Lillian Winifred, third daughter of Air. and Airs. F. S. Newbold, of Flower Street, Eden Terrace, to Laurence John, second son of Mr. and Airs. CW. Barker, of Campbell Road, Ellerslie. Tho engagement is announced of Edna, eldest daughter of Air. and Airs. J. 11. Jaggar-Smith, of Allen Road, Grey Lynn, to Air. Nils Person, of Richmond Avenue, Grey Lynn.
