Though not a particularly cold day, members of the Hamilton Rotary Club rid themselves of excess spirits by’ performing a- Maori haka at yesterday’s luncheon. Mr. H. Valder led off with a solo effort.
At a special meeting of the AVaikato Social W T elfare League last week, the new welfare officer, Mr. J. E. Seal, reported that everywhere he had met with a hearty spirit of co-operation. Arrangements were approved for concerts at Frankton and Hamilton East for the establishment of a wood and coal fund, and a committee was set up to organise a clothes drive.
Two footballers were injured in Hamilton games on Saturday. Weatherley, the Frankton forward, suffered a bad foot injury while playing in the representative match, and Baton, a Cambridge player, dislocated his collarbone.
The first solo flight of a locallytrained pupil took place on Saturday afternoon under ideal conditions. Mr. S. J. Blackmore, a Hamilton businessman, made four- perfect landings in his Bluebird plane. Over 470 entries have been received for the annual bull sale of the Waikato Combined Breeders’ and Auctioneers’ Association to be held at Claudelands on September 24, 25 and 26. All breeds are represented.
