VISITOR APPRECIATES STAY IN NEW ZEALAND WILL FISH AT TAHITI Sport in beautiful and unusual surroundings seems to bo the object of the visit of Major Ramsay Hill, who has come to the Pacific from Paris to see the islands -of this part of the world and to seek the sport which they offer. Ho is also interested in Maori art ajid history, and will study the display at the Memorial Museum. Major Hill arrived back in Auckland on Thursday after a few weeks at Whangapoua, on the Coromandel Peninsula. While there he “roughed it” in the hills in a search for some sport with wild pigs. Although his* bag totalled only one, he was not disappointed in his trip. The major was delighted with the scenery, which he considers the equal of any he has seen in the world. “One of the most interesting things I have seen was the display of intelligence given by the sheep dogs,” he said. "We were on a hill about half a mile away from a flock of sheep browsing on the side of another hill. The master signalled to a dog which could not even see the sheep, and yet it climbed up above them, and at another signal, herded them down to the flat. A remarkable feature about the hill country there is that the light is changing every few minutes, providing wonderful sights. It is especially beautiful at sunset, looking out across the bay.” The next trip will be to Tahiti, where this sportsman intends to do some biggame fishing for a couple of months in the tropics while New Zealand recovers from the rigours of winter. Having seen an announcement in a London newspaper that Mr. Zane Grey had landed a I,ooolb fish at Tahiti, Major Hill is keen to exploit this ground, as he believes that the big fish hibernate in the tropics. After this trip the major will return’ to New Zealand for the lake and biggame fishing season, and expects to spend the summer in. the Dominion.
