MORRINSVILLE TOPICS
More than 970 motor-drivers’ licences had been issued by the Morrinsville town clerk since May 1. compared with 770 for the corresponding period of last year. The total issued in the past financial year was 2.050, and, if the present rate of issue is continued, this total should be greatly exceeded. Most of the licences were issued to country residents. <* * * Several farms on the eastern side of the Tahuna Road have undergone a change in ownership. Messrs. Saville Bros, have taken over a property of 230 acres and will milk 110 cows this season. An adjoining farm was recently purchased by Mr. T. D. Davies. * 9 * The sawmill between Tahuna and Patetonga closed down about two months ago, as the white pine bush along the banks of the Piako has now been cut out, and the trees remaining are of no commercial value. It is probable that the machinery will l>e dismantled shortly and taken to another district. During the several years the mill was in operation, about 3,000,000 feet of timber was produced. The flaxmill has also ceased working, as the result of low prices for fibre, but it is understood that it mav be reopened shortly, as the proprietors have ample supplies of growing flax farther down the river. The quarterly meeting of the Morrinsville Methodist Church was held in the Morrinsville Church. Mrs. W. Xorthcott, of Tatauanui, was reappointed orphanage secretary, and Mr. E. Crabbtree was appointed a steward of the Morrinsville church.
