DIPHTHERIA “CARRIER”

BRETT HOME STILL ISOLATED The probable cause of diphtheria infection at the Brett Home, Takapuna, a week ago, has been discovered by the authorities in the presence of a “carrier’* among the children. Two cases of the disease among the inmates were reported to the Health Department on Friday week, and all the children in the Home were immediately placed in isolation by the medical officer of health, Dr. If. Chesson. Swabs were taken from all the inmates during this week, and bacteriological examination showed the presence of a “carrier.” The sufferers have been removed to the Auckland Hospital, and the Home is still under isolation, which will now date from the time of detection of the “carrier.”
