AWARD NOT APPLICABLE
VESSELS ON HARBOUR RUNS The coastal vessels’ award does not affect a vessel engaged solely in harbour work, according to an interpretation given by the Arbitration Court yesterday, concerning the application of the cooks’ and stewards’ award. The court, in its judgment, stated that under the award dated May 2, 1929, it was directed that the Northern Steamship Company’s Hauiti should be classified as a C class vessel. In the opinion of the court, the Hauiti was taken off her regular coastal running and laid up. Later she was recommissioned for the summer months, and x>laced in the harbour service, being run under the same conditions as the Waiuku and a number of other vessels not covered by the award, which was for coastal vessels. The court held that the coastal vessels’ award did not affect a vessel engaged solely in harbour work, and this was applicable in this case.
