TRUCKS COLLIDE
SMASH IN CITY DRIVER BURNED BY ACID A smash occurred between two motor-trucks at the intersection of Victoria Street and Queen Street at 11.20 o’clock this morning, when the back axle of one vehicle snapped. The driver was slightly burned by flying acid from some batteries ill the van. The two vehicles were proceeding down Victoria Street T •-»(, and when nearing the Queen Strc-t intersection, the front one pulled up. The driver of the other, a light delivery van, applied his foot-brake, but there appeared to be no connection between the transmission shaft and the rear wheels. Before he could brake by another method, the van had crashed Into the back of the truck. The damaged vehicle is owned by Gruar’s Battery House, Albert Street. The windscreen was shattered, and the radiator was pushed back on to the engine, but the driver was not cut by glass. However, one of the batteries in the van was burst open by the shock, and a little of the acid splashed into the driver’s eyes, though he was not seriously hurt. The damaged truck was towed to the owner’s garage.
