BOARD WILL NOT ACT
CROWDING ON DEVONPORT FERRY GANGWAYS PROBLEM FOR COMPANY The Auckland Harbour Board, at a meeting yesterday, decided that the problem of providing improvements to the passenger gangway at Devonport to reduce crushing at the gangway entrance when passengers are disembarking was not one for the board to consider. The board-in-committee received reports from the engineer and the traffic manager stating that the question was one for consideration by the Ferry Company. The board yesterday agreed to send on copies of the reports to the Devonport Borough Council, which had asked that the position be considered. The report of the engineer regarding the question of lavatories for women at the Mechanics’ Bay vehicular ferry terminal will also be sent to tho council, which asked the board to provide facilities. The engineer stated that the scheme would cost about £2OO and mentioned that accommodation is provided on the ferries themselves. His report was adopted by the board.
