MAORI CAR THIEF
COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE GAOL ON OTHER CHARGES From Our Own Correspondent PUKEKOHE, Today. The sequel to the theft of a car from .Pukekohe on April 3 was the appearance of Jimmy Wereta, a Maori, in the Pukekohe Police Court today, before justices of the peace. Evidence was given that a car owned by the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, left in a shed at the rear of was missing. Next day Is was found at a Maori settlement a few miles from Waitara in a damaged condition. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Wereta was also charged with the theft of a brand valued at £ 3 3 os, car accessories valued at £7 12, and personal effects valued at £ 6 2s. The police said accused had a list of convictions, and he was sentenced to one month’s hard labour.
