“FLYING ANZAC”
U.S.A. FINDS TITLE FOR KINGSFORD SMITH PLANE REACHES OAKLAND Reed. 11.35 a.m. NEW YORK, Friday. Wing-Commander Kingsford Smith and his three companions in the monoplane Southern Cross landed at 8 p.m. yesterday at Salt Lake City, Utah, thus completing the second stage of their transcontinental flight from New York to Oakland, California They took off again at 9 o’clock this morning for Oakland and landed there at 2.36 p.m. An earlier message from San Francisco said: —“When the crew of the Southern Cross arrive at Oakland the Mayor, Mr. J. L. Davie, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Field, will greet them. A procession to the City Hall will follow, and in the evening a banquet will be given to the four airmen, each of whotai will receive a scroll. WingCommander Kingsford Smith, the “flying Anzac,” will be presented with a wedding gift.” A celebration will be held at SaD * Francisco.
