GIFT FOR SCOUTS
TROPHY FOR COMPETITION AMONG TROOPS BRONZE STATUETTE A beautiful bronze statuette has been given to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for competition among the Boy Scouts of Auckland. The trophy is a gift from Miss PJmily Rendall. It is about 2ft 6in high, and represents a boy eating out of a bowl. A well-fed bulldog, with an anticipatory look on its face, is gazing up toward the dish. At the base the words “La Bonne Soupe” are inscribed. It is intended lo have a further inscription made, detailing the gift and its purpose. The sixth point in the Boy Scouts’ code of law’s is to be kind to animals. Several scouts study annually for badges in this direction, and one of the society’s inspectors will examine them. The w’riter of the best essay will hold the statuette for one year, and he will receive, besides, a certificate which he may keep. It is considered fortunate that Miss Kendall was able to procure the trophy in Auckland. "She had almost decided .she would have to have it made when she discovered this one in a city shop,” the society’s secretary told The Sun this morning.
