TEAM WORN OUT

AUSTRALIA’S BAD START WITH YORKSHIRE FEELS STRAIN OF TEST Reed. 10.5 a.m. LONDON, Wed. The Australian cricketers today commenced a return match against Yorkshire at Bradford in hot, sunny weather and on a good wicket. Yorkshire lost the toss and the visitors elected to bat. The teams are: Australia. Woodfull, Richardson, Bradman, Ponsford, Jackson, a’Beckett, Hornibrook, Hurwood, Walker, Grimmett and McCabe. Yorkshire. A. Barber. Rhodes, Holmes, Leyland, Macaulay, Robinson, Wood, Mitchell, Dennis, Hall and W. Barber. The Australians were worn out by the gruelling play in the test. They travelled all night long and were in the field a few hours later. They were completely distressed, and made a bad start. Woodfull and Bradman were sent back to the pavilion with only seven runs scored. NOT TOO HAPPY Neither Ponsford nor McCabe were happy against the fast bowlers, Robinson and Dennis. McCabe, however, hit five fours in the first 22, and added two more before he was brilliantly caught at the slips. Three wickets were down for 65. Ponsford and Jackson batted stubbornly until lunch. The first 100 took two hours, and Ponsford reached 50 in 150 minutes.

The Victorian then batted brightly, but Jackson was very slow. Ponsford topped his third century of the tour in 210 minutes after an uncertain start.

He played with perfect confidence. With the total at 201, Jackson went out leg before. His was an indifferent innings. He flattered the bowling, which often invited punishment.
