RELIEF OF WORKLESS

MOVEMENT IN PONSONBY Relief of distress among the unemployed of Ponsonby is the aim of a campaign launched on Tuesday, when a social and dance, organised by the Ponsonby Boys’ Brass Band committee, was held in All Saints’ Church hall. A euchre contest and other competitions were held in an endeavour to raise more money. A representative committee of band officials and the churches in the district has been formed to organise social drives and competitions to raise funds for relief purposes. The boys’ band will commence its work by playing carols in a number of Ponsonby streets on Sunday, July 14.

During the function last evening songs were sung by the Rev. W. Averill and Messrs. A. McCardell, J. Lonergan and Master AV. Stett. Miss A. Lonergan gave a recitation.
