LORD DERBY MAY RACE THERE “GREEN WITH ENVY” Reading from the latest London “Sporting Life.*’ it is seen that there is a possibility of Lord Derby extending his Turf activities to the United States. The paper referred to says:—"The famous black jacket and white cap may be seen on American tracks before long, for Lord Derby said . . . ‘l’ve won races in England and France, and l see no reason why I should not race in America.’ Lord Derby went on to comment on the difference between racing in England and America. . . .I’m green with envy, lie said, 'at your paddocks. In England we have nothing the size of yours.’ ” Up to May 10 Lord Derby was well ahead of the winning owners’ list. With eight horses ho won 12 races, worth £ 1 0.515. and Sir Hugo Hirst was second, bis winnings being £10,130, of which the bay coir Diolite, the Two Thousand Guineas winner, returned the greater part. Lord Derby had bred six winners that won nine races worth £12,136; and Colonel C. W. Birkin two with two wins that brought him C 10.130. Old Phnlaris.’s stock —eight of them—won eight races, valued at £12,052. WAIPA CLUB TAXATION ON MEETING The taxation paid to the Government. by the Waipa Racing Club in connection with last Saturday’s meeting amounted to £1,171. made up as follows: —Totalizator tax. £300: dividend tax. £702; stakes tax. £45; amusement tax. £34.
