Obituary

MR. E. J. SURFLIN The oldest person in Coromandel, Mr. E. J. Surflin, died yesterday, at the ,age of 92. The funeral took place today, and Mr. Surflin was given a Masonic burial by the brethren of Lodge Coromandel No. 17, of which be had been a member for many years. Pie had no relatives in New' Zealand. MRS. M. ROUTLY Mrs. Margaret Koutly. the wife of Mr. Matthew Koutly. died at Pukekohe on Tuesday. Born in 1852. she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander McDonald, pioneers of Pukekohe East. Both her father and her grandfather fuoght in the Maori War. After her marriage Mrs. Koutly lived at Puni for nearly 13 years, but since then she had resided at Pukekohe. She is survived by her husband MR. S. H. CLARK A member of the Auckland Old Colonists’ Association, Mr. Stephen Henry Clark, who died yesterday at Herne Bay, was born in 185 Gat Stroud, Gloucestershire. He came to New Zealand with his parents when he was eight years of age on the clipper ship Zealandia. After working for some years in the building trade at Auckland, he went to California, engaging in the timbe-r industry. On his return to New Zealand he worked as a builder in various parts of the Auckland Province until his retirement. Pie is survived by four brothers, Air. C. A.
