Fire in the projection-box at the Empire Theatre, Island Bay. put an abrupt end to the programme last evening. The structure adjoins the theatre, and the audience was unaware of the outbreak until they had left the building. No panic occurred. The fire brigade extinguished the flames quickly. Two machines and 4,000 ft. of film were destroyed, and other apparatus was damaged by fire and water.
