GOODS DELAYED
COMPLAINT FROM SOUTH EQUAL TREATMENT URGED Press Association DUNEDIN, Today. The secretary of the Otago Importers' and Shippers’ Association has * telegraphed to the Prime Minister that ' the customs has refused clearance oi Dunedin goods arriving at Auckland, which formerly bad been permitted. This refusal constitutes a serious unfairness to Dunedin merchants, who consequently will have to trade at a disadvantage, compared with Xorthern merchants, who have cleared goods before any increased duty can be an-* nounced. The association urges that all consignees of any one ship reaching the Dominion be put on the same footing. The Collector of Customs here said this morning that he knew of no grounds for the complaint from the South. As far as he was aware, no goods for Dunedin had been refused here and, even had this been done, he could see no reason for complaint, as the d;ite of the new duties coming into force has not yet been announced.
