VAUXHALL SCHOOL
PARENTS’ AND TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION OBJECTS EXPLAINED The Parent and Teacher Association originated by the Vauxhall School authorities early last year lias found several imitators in the Dominion, it was announced at the first annual meeting of the association, held at the school last evening, Mr. 11. H. Watkins presiding. The Wellington Federation of Education Associations has taken up the idea and is recommending it to its constituent bodies. In explaining the objects of the movement. -Mr. 11. Binstead, headmaster. said the parents of a child had such intimate knowledge of the child that they usually failed to get a real perspective of its capabilities for development. On the other hand, the school teacher could get the perspective view but lacked the more intimate knowledge. By parents and teachers combining, so that there was real co-operation between the home teaching and the school teaching, something approaching an ideal education was feasible., The Parent and Teacher Association allowed an opportunity of acquainting parents with the latest ideas in this direction. Mr. Walker said that, in the last eight years, more than £1,750 had been raised and spent on improving the school grounds and that this year further efforts would be made. The association had provided 7,500 cups of cocoa last winter for the children at the school. The following officers were elected: Secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. E. Carrington; committee, Mrs. Eyre, Mrs. Miles. Mrs. Hutchins, Mrs. Lloyd, Mr. Cavanagh and Mr. Carrington. In addition, are the following delegates from the school committee*: Mr. Samson, Mr. Griffiths, Mr. Watkins and the school teachers.
