J. C. WILLIAMSON’S COMPANY The members of J. C. Williamson’s new English musical comedy company, comprising over 70 people. some of whom will be making their first appearance here on Saturday night next, arrived by the Marama this morning. Scenic and lighting rehearsals will take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and the opening performance on Saturday should prove a noteworthy occasion. Written by Arthur Iligby and Stanley Lupino, and the music by several of England’s foremost composers, "Love Lies," the popular London musical i comedy from the Oaiety Theatre, was first produced at that theatre last January. and according to the latest ad vie*received from there it was still running, and no signs of the last weeks being announced either. This after passing through the worst six months that the theatrical profes- | sion had ever known in England, owing to the "talkies,” and with many good shows falling by the wayside has made "Love Lies” come to be looked upon as one of the most successful shows of the year, and Messrs. White and Edgley consular themselves very fortunate indeed to ha»ve secured such a popular show' for their first advent into the musical comedy field. It is the general opinion of all the returning New Zealanders who saw “Love Lies” in London, that it is one of the brightest shows they saw while abroad, and what is more important absolutely ideal for the Aucklanc theatregoers’ tastes. A specially imported cast has beet engaged by Messrs. White and Kdgiev including Tina. McLean.
