“MAN EVOLVES MORALLY”
At the Higher Thought Temple last evening Mr. M. Walker gave the second of a series of addresses on the problems of life and destiny. His first subject was, “From Where Arc We?” Last evening he spoke on “What Are We?” It was to be regretted that the large majority of the human race knew so little of its bodily composition, said the speaker, who explained, in detail, the chemical composition of the body. The ignorance ■which prevailed was chiefly responsible for the complaints of the sufferers. The new idea was to show how man was evolving to a nobler position, said Mr. Walker. The recognition of that fact would make a success of our educational institutions. Man was preeminently a thinking animal. The mind was the standard of the man. There was no higher standard than the mental. Man was a creature, created by the Divinity, the creator of all. If we recognised the divinity of the human soul, we would perceive that man was not inherently depraved. The goodness of man was the divinity in his heart. There was goodness in every man. Man was incomplete; he was still evolving in moral character. While much was done to save man
physically, there was also the spiritual side of man to be attended to. Materialism could not explain man's nature. Man’s spiritual nature was constantly growing, though sometimes stunted. It was being reinforced by the forces of eternal nature, which were divine.
