CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
‘‘Christian Science” was the subject of the lesson-sermon in First Church of Christ, Scientist, yesterday. The golden text was from John xv., 26. “When the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.”
Among the citations was the following from the Bible: “And at even when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.” The lesson-sermon also included the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, “Today the healing power of Truth is widely demonstrated as an immanent eternal Science, instead of a phenomenal exhibition. Its appearing is the coming anew of the gospel of “on earth peace, good-wiil toward men.” Now as then, signs and wonders are wrought in the metaphysical healing of physical disease; but these signs are only to demonstrate its divine origin, to attest the reality of the higher mission of the Christ-power to take away the sins of the world.”
