CLEVER THEFT IN HOTEL

TROUSERS TAKEN FROM UNDER MATTRESS £34 IN POCKETS From our own Correspondent NEW PLYMOUTH, Today. Putting a roll of notes worth £34 in this trouser pocket, a guest in a Hawera, Hotel on Wednesday evening folded the garments, placed them under his mattress and went to bed. When he was dressing next morning he found that the notes were missing. The owner of the money was an Aucklander who was visiting Hawera for the Hunt Club races. Apparently tho trousers, with the notes in the pocket, were extracted from under tlie mattress while he was asleep. The police were informed and at present suspicion rests on two casual boarders who booked in at the hotel on the night of the theft. They were missing early next morning, though their beds had been slept' in.
