I I Under the direction, of the head- > master, Mr. Bradley, and Miss Ryan, ! a visitor from Wanganui, the pupils of the Kaitieke school put on an exceptionally good concert and dance this year. One of the items was a. native chorus, “Haere Tonu,” followed by a haka, the young performers all being in Maori costume. MANY PRESENTATIONS. Mr. and Mrs. F. O’Connor, who are among the oldest residents ut' Taumarunui, and are moving to Masterton, have been the recipients of widespread marks of esteem from the various bodies with which they have been connected. Mr. O'Connor has been a member of the fire brigade for more than 20 years, and at the annual brigade smoke concert the superintendent, Mr. R. Ross, handed Mr. O’Connor a silver teapot for Mrs. O’Connor as an appreciation from the brigade. Fireman R. Carr read an illuminated address which the members presented to their departing officer. At a meeting of the Taumarunui Bowling Club, Mr. O’Connor was presented with a leather bowl bag, Mr. G. E. Manson making the gift on behalf of the club. At the annual reunion of the Taumarunui and District Pioneers’ Association, the chairman, Mr. L. Fisher, stated that Mr. O’Connor was one of the oldest members, and presented him with a tobacco casket. W.D.F.U. The Oh ura sub-branch of the i women’s division of the Farmers’ Union elected the following officers at its annual meeting: President, Mrs. sen.; vice-presidents, Mrs. Dougherty, Mrs. W. T. McKay, and Mrs. D.« J. Bruce; advisory member, Mr. Julian; lion, secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Dons; committee —Nihoniho, Mesdames R. M. Kelly, E. A. Williams, and Richardson; Matiere, Mrs. Sandison; Tokirima, Mesdames Old and Johnston; Waitewhena Road, Mrs. Potter; Oh ura, Mesdames M. Craven, W. J. Aitcheson; Rae, C. Aitcheson and P. Goldfinch. The yearly reports and balance sheet disclosed a good financial position.
A very delightful “woolshed dance’’ terminated the day’s sport arranged by the Mangatepoto Dog Trial Club, the event taking place at the property bf Mr. W. 11. de Malmanclie, Upper Ohura. Messrs. Lloyd and H. and F. Ford supplied the music, with extras by Mrs. J. Caird, Mrs. Fellows, and
Miss Rata. Miss M. Ford gave a. delightful exhibition of the Highland fling, and the sailor’s hornpipe by Mr. F. Ford was greatly appreciated. Mr. L-loyd contributed a song. TE WII AKA RAE DANCE. The first dance conducted by the newly-formed social club at Te Whakarae was very successful. Music was supplied by the Te Whakarae Orchestra, additional numbers being played by Mrs. Bates, Mr. Siske, and Mr. de la II aye. Mr. C. Davis was M.C. Novelty dances were won by Mrs. Gould and Mr. S. Bruce, and Miss W. L’den and partner. In order to raise funds for the local hall, a baby carnival is being held in the Te Whakarae district. Results so far announced are: Otunui baby, 580 votes; Mill baby, 577 votes; Aukopae baby, 375 votes; Farmers’ baby. 285 votes.
