WEIGHT-LIFTING
GYMNASIUM CONTEST
A successful weight-lifting competition was held in Wilson's gymnasium, Lome Street, last evening, and although the competitors had been training only a comparatively short time, some creditable performances were recorded.
Points were awarded for the greatest weight lifted in proportion to the body weight of the competitor, and the “two hands clean and jerk” overhead lift was used. The competition was won by F. Brindle, weighing 1471 b, and lifting 1301 b. Other lifts were as follow, the body weight of the competitors being given in parentheses: A. Greenbury (12351 b), 1001 b; B. Forman (1871 b), 1501 b; M. Monahan (140 lb), 1101 b; E. Nicholls (1571 b), 1251 b; AY. Smith (1571 b), 1151 b: R. Lovegrove (1621 b), 10751 b; R. Cammell (1621 b), 1051 b.
The winner will bo presented with a medal, suitably inscribed.
