FLOOD PREVENTION

OPOTIKI SCHEME DEFERRED From Our Own Correspondent OPOTIKI, Wednesday. A comprehensive flood prevention scheme was submitted by Messrs. Vickerman and Lancaster, at last evening’s meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council. The total estimated cost of the scheme, which involved protecting the whole of the borough with stop-banks on all sides, amounts to about £ 7,000. The engineer recommended that the undertaking be done section by section, not necessarily* in one year. The council decided to hold the question over for consideration in the future, it being felt that the financial conditions of the country did not warrant such expenditure at the present time.
