EASED IN THE MARKET

BELLS OF SHANDON’S SUCCESS A GOOD PERFORMANCE The second division of the Nursery Handicap at Rand wick on June 14 was' featured by heavy wagering on behalf of Eulclare and Tippo, and a brilliant dash by Bells of Shandon over the last furlong. Eulclare, who was first past the post in the Gimcrack Stakes, but lost the race on protest, has since started a number of times, but she was not in

condition to reveal her best form. She was well backed and at one stage ousted Tippo from favouritism. Those associated with the lastnamed, however, would not hear of his defeat, and eventually he went out at a short price, most bookmakers refusing to do business with either. This resulted in Bells of Shandon, who had been supported most of the time at sixes, easing to liberal odds. La Gloria cut out the early running, but approaching the last furlong about half a dozen horses, including Tippo, Eulclare, and Bells of Shandon, were almost in line. Eulclare, on the outside, momentarily got her head in front, and then Bells of Shandon and Tippo issued strong claims. Bells of Shandon finished best, despite the fact that his rider lost an iron, and beat Tippo by a neck, with Eulclare half a length away, and only just in front of the fast-finishing Kaytoun. La Gloria, Kingdale, and Redditch were also close up.
