GRAY’S LEAD
FOUR UP ON ELLIS JOCKEYS’ WINNING LIST At Hawera yesterday Hector Gray increased his lead from three to four over A. E. Ellis, in the race for the jockeys’ premiership. No doubt the positions of these two riders on the list will continue to seesaw up to July 31, when the season ends officially. It is not expected that Gray will be riding’ at Xapier tomorrow and on Saturday, for lie has contracted to be at Te Awamutu on Saturday. On that day also Ellis will be riding at Ashburton.
L. Dulieu 20 The meetings yet to be decided are as follow:—• South Island.—Ashburton. June 28; Oamaru, July 5; Waimate Hunt, July ID: South Canterbury Hunt, July 20. North Island. —Xapier Park, June 27 and 28; Waipa, June 28; Wellington, July 8, 10 to 12; Gisborne, July 17 and ID; Manawatu, July 33. Ellis will be present at all the South Island fixtures, in addition to Wellington, and Gray will also cover the latter, as well as the Waipa and Manawatu meetings, while he will possibly visit Gisborne if the jockeys’ premiership is still at stake after the racing at Trentham.
